When you open a bottle of TWG wine, you open a story of passion—from the way we care for the land and vines, to the creative blending and caretaking by the winemakers and cellar teams, and to all of those who tend to the wine along the way.
For nearly forty years, we have led with passion. A passion for the company (privately held and management-owned) and for our more than 60 award-winning brands.
On December 5, 1933, Prohibition is repealed and American wineries like Franzia Brothers*, Mogen David*, and Tribuno*, start the challenging work of rebuilding and resuming production. (*Future TWG brands)
The Wine Group originates within Coca-Cola Bottling of New York during a period when U.S. consumer product companies are eager to enter the wine business. The company acquires the Franzia, Mogen David, and Tribuno brands. It’s near the end of this era that the revolutionary, "fresh to the last glass," Franzia Wine Tap® packaging makes its debut.
After a leveraged buy-out in 1981, The Wine Group (TWG) becomes a privately held company owned by its executives by 1984. Soon after, Corbett Canyon brand is acquired and MD 20/20 wine coolers launch. TWG becomes the fourth largest wine company in California.
TWG becomes the third largest U.S. wine company in 1993, largely due to the expansion of winery operations and the wild success of Franzia, which becomes the #1 U.S. wine brand in 1994.
TWG launches a series of new wine brands (Cupcake, Chloe, flipflop, and Love Noir) while other brands (Concannon Vineyards, Glen Ellen Winery, and Almaden Vineyards) join the TWG team.
TWG success continues with a series of strong brand launches and major accolades. Ava Grace, 13° Celsius, and Insurrection launch with success, while award-winning wineries Benziger and Imagery, plus the brand 7 Deadly, join the TWG portfolio.
The Wine Group’s vision is to thrive as the wine industry’s most admired organization while delighting consumers with unbeatable brand value and continuous innovation to consistently exceed their expectations.
Our wines are celebrated worldwide, and many have won big. We have received more than 4,000 awards and accolades since 2010. Here are just a few highlights:
We pride ourselves on creating an environment where individuals can thrive and grow—tending to our culture with get-togethers, advancing careers through opportunities and training, providing educational scholarships for children of TWG employees, and other meaningful benefits.
Like the wine we make, we believe that having a blend of voices enriches the experience. We honor our differences and empower our employees to contribute their unique value. By joining their voice with others, we create an environment of inspiration and innovation.
We are honored to give back to the communities where we live and work and to support causes that make a difference to others. This includes showing our gratitude for those who have, or are currently serving our country, and supporting those in need.
